Make two torrent clients download same file
But probably not enough to make it worth the hassle of running two separate clients on different ports. How do you find the local IP and port? Sounds very awkward to use. Could probably work with other clients with small changes. See there for caveats, it's mostly useful for slow swarms.
Later Vuze implemented automagic "Swarm Merging" which it tries when it sees files with same sizes. This should work better as its aware exactly what parts of the files are complete, and there is no re-checking overhead. Downside: you end up with 2 copies. BEP 38 Draft proposed standartized hints. Googling suggests nobody uses it. Anyway the hard part is actually sharing the data, not discovering when to try. Disclaimer: I never tried any of the above features. That is what makes it faster than just straight transferring it from someone else. LawrenceC LawrenceC The OP is asking about two clients downloading one part of the file each. But, if I understand correctly, and I understand I simplfy this, the sequence identifier is basically the hash of the actual bytes sequence of a given file. As you indicated the torrent file name, is used only for caption, and It is not part of the hash. Because the probability of two metadata files, albeit with the same content, being created with identical clients, under identical circumstance is remote, but it can and does happen, but makes zero difference because for the info hash to be identical, it means that the piece count and piece hashsums are the same.
Try creating metadata files of the same content data using three different clients on the same machine and you WILL have three different info hash values.

Posted October 1, Hi, I am trying to download two files, with differnt names, which supposed to be same. The season 1 files are exactly the same same hash codes. Unfortunately, each has only a few seeds, so it's moving pretty slow. I'd like to be able to download from both torrents simultaneously so that at least season 1 would complete twice as fast.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who has encountered this. In the past I never thought of it this way "Oh I'll just pick the one with the most seeds" , but why not be able to connect with any number of torrents that share the same files? I'm with deanb in thinking that this would prevent torrent death.
On the other hand, maybe survival of the fittest most seeded torrent is better than having tons of barely-alive torrents out there. You won't be able to pick-and-choose individual pieces on each to prevent double-downloading the same parts once in each torrent.
